Ciao Venezia!

On our way to the Biennale

At the Biennale 2022

Bienvenue and welcome back to Musée Musings, your idiosyncratic guide to Paris and art. This week, Ginevra and I are in Venice for the Venice Biennale, one of the world's largest and most important contemporary visual art exhibitions. The last time we were here was 2022. That year, the curator of the Biennale was Cecilia Alemani, whose ‘day job’ was curator of art at the High Line in New York City. The artist who represented the United States was Simone Leigh whose evocative sculptures graced both the U.S. Pavilion in the Giardini and the Arsenale. This year, as you might imagine, things are not the same. A very different set of criteria was used to decide who would represent the United States. Politics has been playing a role in many aspects of the Biennale this year. I’ll report back when we get back. In the meantime, please enjoy this post - a history of the Venice Biennale. Gros bisous, Dr. B.
